On Friday, April 3rd, we had an open house as part of the Central Virginia AIA ‘Design Week.’ To make the party a little more interesting, we borrowed 150 ICF blocks from Creative Building Products in Ashland, Virginia. David McIlwain, President of CBP, graciously agreed to loan us the blocks we needed, he brought them up in his truck and even helped us unload them. Additional blocks were donated by Allied Concrete and Virginia Polysteel.
It took us about 2 days to assemble the blocks, lay out walls and ‘rooms’ within our open loft space. A section of block was waterproofed for the ‘wall of beer.’ Samples of Appalachian Sustainable Developments wood were put in between spaces for their color and beauty. Architectural models were sprinkled about on ledges, monitors were set up to run a slideshow, and we created long boards of some of our recent work. Food for the event came from C+O Catering, who is a neighbor of ours. They provided some delicious Tex-Mex eats from their new Bel Rio Restaurant menu.
Many thanks to our friends, consultants, clients, guests and family members who attended; it was a huge success! Special thanks go out to David McIlwain of Creative Building Products and Christy Grayson of C+O Catering.
